Eagles Win Third Straight District Championship

Seven Move On To Regionals

In a memorable week in Hartland wrestling history, the Eagles claimed their third straight Team District Championship and advanced seven of its wrestlers into next weekend's Regional meet. For the third straight year, Hartland also crowned four District Champions.  The Eagles are now two wins away from making their third appearance in the State Quarterfinals.
On February 18, Hartland High School played the role of host for a Division II Team District and saw its Eagles come away with a District Championship.  In the opening round, Hartland earned an 84-0 forfeit win over Linden who failed to show for the District meet.  Linden may have made a wise decision considering the other teams in the District included #9 Fenton and #18 Hartland.  Hartland and Fenton squared off in a dual that will not soon be forgotten by the Hartland faithful.  Hartland's Bruce Scannell took the opening match at 103 earning 8-2 decision for the Eagles.  In the next two matches the Tigers earned technical falls by 1997 All-Staters Scott Pushman (7th 103) at 112 over Hartland's Shawn Petitpren, and Tom Kottalis (6th 112) over the Eagles Derek Nuhn.  Brandon Dorenzo earned the Eagles a 11-2 major decision over Bill Domako of Fenton at 125.  Steve Dorenzo at 130 followed his brother with a 9-5 decision over the Tigers Neal Tolene.  Hartland's Tim Kowal moved up two weight classes to 135 and scored a wild 19-13 victory over Fenton's Brian Quinn.  With the Eagles leading 13-10, Hartland's Ricky Jakob won a pivotal 140 match with
