Eagles Return Plenty of Big Guns
[09/04/2000]The 2000-2001 Hartland Wrestling Team returns with plenty of talent for the upcoming season. The Eagles return 12 of 14 starters and 15 other wrestlers that have seen varsity action in the past. Leading the way for Hartland are three returning state qualifiers in Jim Bunn (275), Bill Pare' (135), and Steve Steckroth (145). Regional qualifiers Drew Hellner (112), & Shawn Petitpren (119) return along with 1999 All-Stater Josh Kowal (125) who also qualified for the regional in 2000. Other returning starters include Gabe Chevrier (103 2nd KVC), Derek Nuhn (130 3rd KVC), Shane Begoske (215 4th KVC), Brett McManaman (140 Freestyle State Placer), Marc Nelson (160), and Joe Tulip (189). Mike Monroe (145), Chris Watson (130), Marc Kasabasic (125), Jeff Strong (160), Bryan Linck (152), Jordan Palmer (215), Gunnar Long (135), Tom Ventura (160), Steve Storey (171), and Claude Gulley all saw limited action last year and will contribute greatly this season. Sean Baier (215 2nd KVC 1999) should return to the team this season after a horrifying knee dislocation saw him miss most of last season. A 23 - 4 record in 2000 came with no post season accolades for the first time since 1995, and has made the Eagles hungry to return to Battle Creek.
